About Belco Psych Assessments
01 — About
Belconnen Psychological Assessments (BPA) is a Canberra psychology practice focused on psychological assessment for children, adolescents and adults.
Based at Florey Medical Centre in the Belconnen region, BPA provides individualised psychological assessment to help clarify a person’s strengths, difficulties and support needs, including diagnostic assessments.
02 — Principal Psychologist

Mr. Peter Twiss MAPS
Registered Psychologist | Clinical Psychology Registrar
MClinPsych, BSci(Psych)Hons, BBA
Peter is the Principal Psychologist at Belconnen Psychological Assessments, holds a Master of Clinical Psychology, and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS). His main area of interest is psychological assessment for children and adolescents, particularly questions involving learning, attention, development and behaviour.
Before becoming a psychologist, Peter worked across healthcare, business, Defence and the Australian Public Service in roles involving human resources, business intelligence, workforce and organisational research, data analysis, process design and frontline service delivery. His earlier experience also included work as an autism therapist.
During his psychology training, Peter gained experience working alongside respiratory and sleep physicians, and with refugees and interpreters to adapt assessment processes across cultural and language barriers. These experiences contributed to ongoing interests in psychological measurement, statistics, research methods, systems thinking, and the relationship between sleep, attention and cognitive performance.
Peter believes effective assessment can do more than provide a diagnosis. It can help people understand what is happening, identify the healthcare or support they may need, communicate those needs clearly, and make informed decisions about what comes next. He sees assessment as a practical tool that can help people move towards their broader goals in education, work, relationships and everyday life.
He is particularly interested in helping families make sense of complex information and navigate healthcare, education and organisational systems. He values recommendations that are not only clinically sound, but practical within the systems families actually need to work with.
Peter is a member of the LGBTQIA+SB community and brings lived experience of neurodivergence to his work. Psychological assessment has been a longstanding special interest, particularly those moments when bringing information together reveals an unexpected pattern and helps the pieces make sense.
03 — Tailored Assessment Services
An assessment service designed around individual needs
BPA uses structured screening and intake processes before assessment begins. This helps us determine whether our service is a good fit for the questions being asked, while also giving you the information you need to decide whether BPA is the right fit for their needs.
All assessments are tailored to individual needs. Our goal is to provide high-quality assessment that answers meaningful questions and helps clients achieve practical goals, rather than being determined by a rigid package.
04 — REPORTS & Recommendations
Clear reports. Practical recommendations.
BPA prides itself on providing clear reports and recommendations that can be acted upon in the settings where they matter.
Recommendations are developed with the person’s circumstances in mind and may assist with:
- reasonable adjustments at school, university or work;
- equitable assessment arrangements or special provisions for ACT senior secondary students (see BSSS);
- educational planning and learning support;
- accessing appropriate health, disability or community services, including NDIS;
- communication between families, schools and treating professionals; and
- identifying practical next steps following assessment.
We aim for assessment reports to do more than simply describe whether someone meets diagnostic criteria. They should bring the available information together, explain what it means in the context of the individual, and provide a useful basis for decisions about support, reasonable adjustments, intervention and next steps — irrespective of whether a diagnosis is made.
BPA draws on experience extending beyond clinical practice, including public and business administration and systems design. This broader perspective informs our approach to making recommendations that are clear, practical and capable of being implemented within real-world systems such as schools, workplaces, healthcare and other services.
